Eyelid Surgery Clinic : What is Eyelid Surgery?
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a procedure to reshape and correct eyelid issues such as excess eyelid skin, indistinct eyelid creases, sagging eyelids, or fat bags in this area.
Options include upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or a combination of upper and lower eyelid surgery. The technique chosen depends on the individual’s eye structure, skin and muscle volume, and understanding of the procedure. The goal is simply to create a more defined eyelid crease, but regular assessments of the eyelid structure are crucial for achieving optimal results while maintaining the patient’s commitment to eyelid care.
Double Eyelid Surgery: Suitable for those with single eyelids, indistinct eyelid creases, or uneven eyelid creases.
Short Incision Technique: Small incision of approximately 3-5 mm. Minimal swelling and faster recovery. Suitable for those with minimal excess eyelid skin and fat.
Full Incision Technique: Incision along the entire eyelid crease to remove excess eyelid skin and fat. Suitable for those with drooping eyelids, hooded eyelids, or thick eyelid fat.
Non-Incision/Suture Technique: Small holes are made and sutures are used to create an eyelid crease. No eyelid skin is cut. Suitable for those who desire a natural look and faster recovery.
Lower eyelid surgery is often used to correct problems related to bags under the eyes, excess fat under the eyes, and excess skin in the lower eyelid area.
In some cases, the doctor may choose to remove fat or rearrange/relocate fat to create a smoother and more balanced appearance under the eyes.
The surgical incision may be made under the lash line or inside the eyelid, depending on the problem and technique chosen.
This surgery adjusts the strength of the levator muscle, suitable for those with droopy eyelids, sleepy-looking eyes, or where the pupil is covered by the eyelid by more than 1-2 mm.
Eyelid Ptosis Removal / Correction of Mature Eyelids (Subbrow Lift / Blepharoplasty): The incision is hidden under the brow bone to lift sagging eyelids without changing the original eyelid structure.
Epicanthoplasty / Canthoplasty: Helps to increase the width of the eyes, corrects the problem of the curved skin covering the inner corner of the eye, making the eyes appear larger and the eye shape longer and more proportionate.
1. Uneven Double Eyelids/Hidden Double Eyelids:
Causes: Thick eyelid structure, excessive fat accumulation, or uneven muscle tension between the left and right eyelids.
Solution: Long incision combined with fat removal and reshaping the eyelid crease for balance, or combined with eyelid muscle repositioning.
2. Weak Eyelid Muscles (Ptosis):
Causes: Levator aponeurosis (eyelid muscle tendon) is not fully stretched or functioning, causing the eyelid to droop and cover the pupil.
Solution: Requires “Levator Resection/Advancement” combined with double eyelid surgery. If only a simple incision is made without muscle correction, the eyes will still look tired and the eyelid crease will appear unnaturally thick.
3. Deep-set Eyes/Aging Eyes (Sunken Eyes):
Causes: Atrophy of fat in the eye socket area. Makes you look older than your age.
Solution: Fat repositioning or micro-fat grafting into the eye socket area to make the eyes appear firmer and more youthful.
Day 1 – 3: Maximum swelling and bruising (emphasize continuous cold compresses)
Day 5 – 7: Suture removal appointment. Swelling begins to subside, bruising starts to turn yellow.
1 – 2 weeks: Swelling reduces by 50-70%. Light makeup is possible, and you can return to work as usual.
1 – 3 months: Eyelid swelling gradually subsides, and the true eye shape becomes visible.
